The buyer’s workbench

Better electricity decisions start with the same facts.

Separate supply from delivery, compare like-for-like offers, and prepare before a contract rolls over. These tools explain the decision; they do not enroll an account.

Delivery utility

The wires still belong to your utility.

Distribution service, outages and tariff-based charges remain with the delivery company. Switching a supplier does not remove those costs.

Competitive supply

Compare the parts you can choose.

Ask which supply components are fixed, passed through or excluded. A lower advertised cents-per-kWh figure is not enough.

01 / Supply comparison

Compare one year on equal terms

Enter your own supply-only benchmark and an offer with the same included components. Defaults are hypothetical, not current rates or a quote.

$360estimated lower annual supply cost at unchanged usage

Formula: annual kWh × (benchmark − offer in cents) ÷ 100 − 12 × additional monthly fee. Excludes delivery, taxes, termination charges, usage changes and unpriced pass-throughs. A future utility price is unknown; this is a one-year comparison, not a forecast.

Before relying on the result
  • Confirm energy, capacity, transmission and other components included in each price.
  • Read usage-bandwidth, change-in-law, early-exit and renewal clauses.
  • Compare the same dates and rate class. A first-block price is not a whole-bill average.
  • Include any fee difference only once. Fees already inside the rate stay inside it.

02 / Renewal preparation

Work back from your contract end date

These are planning milestones, not contractual notice deadlines. Your agreement’s cancellation and renewal terms always take priority.

Choose a date to show your preparation milestones.

Already close to expiration? Check the automatic-renewal clause first. Never cancel a contract based solely on a calendar calculation.

Start with the right service territory

Use the utility name on your business bill. City limits do not determine service territory.

Find your utility first. Then compare the supply portion of the bill.
